About Me

Amy Booth

I’m a freelance journalist in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I write about global development, human rights, politics, the environment, and travel, especially in Bolivia and Argentina.

My work has been published in The Guardian, Al Jazeera, Vice, The Independent, Lonely Planet, The Lancet, Medium, New Humanitarian, New Internationalist, and plenty of others.

I have written everything from breaking news to long-form features, analysis, and opinion. I endeavour to work from a feminist and decolonial perspective, centring local people’s voices and experiences.

When I’m not reporting, I’m probably working on my masters thesis, slinging polenta in my neighbourhood comedor (soup kitchen), or hanging from a trapeze.

These biker gangs are “defending democracy” in Bolivia

I profiled one of Bolivia’s youth “resistance” groups for Vice World News. They say they’re defending democracy, but human rights groups warn that they’re acting as dangerous para-state groups.

Delivery Apps Are Turning Gig Workers Into Drug Mules in Argentina

Some delivery apps allow users to send anything they like. Guess what? They use them to send drugs, without the knowledge or consent of the couriers. I wrote about it for OneZero, Medium’s tech magazine.

No alcohol, no violence: life inside the Bolivian community led by women

MarĂa Auxiliadora is a community where the leaders are women, violent men have been thrown out, and selling the land for profit is forbidden. I spent two days there reporting for The Guardian.
